Listening to the very interesting paper of Messrs. West and Primmer, I was very much struck by the extent and rapidity of the variations of load experienced at Colenso. I was therefore surprised that no mention was made of pulverized fuel plant, as flexibility is one of its unchallenged features. However, as boiler house practice is hardly within my province, and as I am not conversant with South African conditions, I refrained from comment. The following week, however, I received the October issue of the Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers from London, in which there is a most interesting paper* by Mr. R. A. Chattock, Chief Electrical Engineer for Birmingham, on pulverized fuel firing, as he has developed it in that undertaking.
