An introduction to radio-location

Principal Raikes, Mr. President, Col. Collins, Ladies and Gentlemen. — The paper which I am reading to-night deals with a subject which has been shrouded in secrecy ever since its development as a weapon of war, and in its applications and intimate technical detail the subject still remains a closely guarded military secret. The general principles are, however, fairly well known and their discussion involves no breach of security. For this reason, permission has been granted for the reading of the paper at this meeting. The paper is obviously limited in scope, but I hope that it may, nevertheless, be of some interest, even though its value as a technical contribution to the records of the Institute will be small. As the whole of this paper is not for publication, I must ask members and visitors please to refrain from taking down any notes during or after the lecture.
