Dual Port Pattern Reconfigurable MIMO Antenna with Suppressed Harmonics for WLAN Applications

A dual port MIMO antenna system integrated with Low Pass Filter (LPF) is presented in this paper. The prototype provides a 2:1 VSWR band width over the entire 2.4GHz WLAN band and suppresses up to third harmonics (up to 11GHz) when fabricated on FR4 substrate. The antenna, if placed in XY-plane can generate a total of six different reconfigured patterns using a switchable single parasitic element, with gain enhanced to more than 3dB under particular conditions, in XZ-plane. Since the filter and the antenna are integrated over same substrate, the back-end circuitry of prototype is simplified making it power efficient and fast.
