The M.K.S. system of units

The paper gives a brief history of systems of electrical unite with emphasis on the factors that have led to the development of m.k.s. units and of the rationalization of units. The functioning of the m.k.s. system is treated in detail on the basis of the more familiar c.g.s. systems of units, and the rationalization of the system of units is explained. Finally the c.g.s. and m.k.s. systems are compared from points of view of use in electromagnetic theory, in education and in electrical engineering practice.
