Test results on the operation of a six-phase mercury arc rectifier

As mercury arc rectifiers may be regarded as a comparative innovation, as yet, in this country the following short description of the apparatus tested is given: — The set, which is of the six-phase, glass bulb type, is rated at 30 kw. and 220 volt. The rectifier transformer, which is of the three-phase star/six-phase fork connection, is supplied with 400 volt A.C. For D.C. voltage control, the transformer secondary is tapped out to a hand-operated tap-changing group, the voltage variation obtained being from 200 volt to 290 volt on open circuit.
