The mercury arc rectifier traction sub-stations of the electricity supply commission on the natal and reef electrified systems of the South African railways

Mr. President, Gentlemen,—The electrification of the South African Railways in Natal has already formed the subject of three papers read before this Institute. The first of these papers, entitled “An Introduction to the Study of Electric Traction in Natal,” was presented by the late Mr. T. P. Pask in 1926 (Journal, May, 1926), the second entitled “Description and Operating Features of the Automatic Traction Substations in Natal,” by Mr. S. A. Malan in 1928 (Journal, April, 1928), and the third entitled “ Electricity Supply Commission, Natal Central Undertaking, with special reference to the Operating and Maintenance Features,” by Messrs. J. A. West and D. S. Primmer in 1929 (Journal, October, 1929).
