Notes on the application of electricity to domestic services

Mr. President and Gentlemen, one might state, in the first instance, that the application of electricity to heating and cooking has got beyond the experimental stags, and thanks to our commercial friends whose keenness in those particular sections of electrical engineering has been greatly in evidence, we have very substantial electrical apparatus these days for almost every kind of appliance one can think of. I have not the least doubt that Mr. Gould and Mr. Tinson will be able to give you more details of the practical construction of such things as kettles, electrical irons, stoves, and the usual apparatus connected with the household, better than I can describe them to you; but, like everything else in the world, from the engineering point of view the application of electricity to such things as heating and cooking becomes merely a matter of economics.
