A consideration of some rectifier transformer connections, leading up to an introduction to the principles, uses and effects of grid-control in the mercury-arc current converter when use as a straight rectifier

This paper deals with two fairly distinct aspects of the mercury-are rectifier, namely (a) methods of connecting it to the A.C. supply, and (b) methods of controlling its D.C. output by means of grids; and it may be felt that there is little relation between these two subjects. However, in order to be able to understand the second section, some knowledge of the first is required and it is partly because of this that it is included in the paper.
