The 220-kV Belgian Congo-Northern Rhodesia inter-connector and the Kitwe terminal installation

The circumstances resulting in the provision of a 220-kV interconnector between the synchronous systems established in the copper mining districts of the Belgian Congo and Northern Rhodesia are outlined. Considerations affecting the design of the line, together with details of the mechanical and electrical features, are discussed and the installation at the Kitwe terminal is described.
