A Situated Cognition Model for CPPS Testing

This paper presents a model for the meta-cognitive processes involved in testing cyber-physical production systems (CPPS). It is based on an existing framework of designing, the situated Function-Behaviour-Structure (sFBS) framework, which accounts for the role of situated cognition - the notion that cognitive activities are inseparable from the environment in which they take place. Situated cognition is involved in human goal setting, interpretation and memory construction, which are essential activities in testing. The paper shows the applicability of the sFBS framework as a model of CPPS testing, as a basis for the development of effective testing tools.
