Analytical Analysis of Figure of Merit, Nonlinearity and Self-Phase Modulation (SPM) for the Generation of 110GHz Opto-electronic Oscillator (OEO)

Presently the Optoelectronic Oscillator (OEO) has been a potential area of research due to its utility in space applications. The electro-optic modulator (EOM) based 110 GHz optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is the potential device to be used for the space applications. This paper presents the analytical analysis of Figure of merit, nonlinear issues and Self-Phase modulation (SPM) of the EOM for the generation of 110GHz. In this study a smallest Figure of merit of electro-optic modulator (EOM) is proposed. An effect of nonlinear effective refractive index of the EOM is also discussed. The parameters such as waveguide dispersion, effective refractive index, intensity and waveguide area has been analysed to propose a suitable EOM dimension for the 110 GHz OEO. The dispersion due to Self-Phase modulation (SPM) and corresponding changes in the spectral contents has also been analysed.
