Constant Beamwidth Receiving Beamforming Based on Template Matching

This paper considers the design of a general constant beamwidth receiving beampattern for narrowband/wideband array. Specifically, a novel non-convex optimization model is formulated relying on the minimization of the matching error between the desired template and the designed beampattern in the presence of array gain constraint. Then an iteration methodology based on the coordinate descent (CD) framework is introduced. In each iteration, it splits the original problem into multiple one-dimensional subproblems with closed-form solutions ensuring that the matching error monotonically decreases to convergence. Finally, numerical examples are provided to verify the capability of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results highlight that the proposed method is capable of synthesizing the desired constant beamwidth beampattern with the low sidelobe and nulling.
