Sensorex: Review on Saturation Extraction Algorithms on Demand of Low-cost Optical Pulse Oximetry

A current study provides an analysis of the last decade's tendencies in non-invasive oxygen saturation estimation when conventional low-cost fingertip sensors are used. The paper observes the properties of the existing saturation extraction algorithms are applicable in clinical practice when there are patient motion, ambient light, and electromagnetic interference. Moreover, even if the patient population is adults only, the professional medical device is used on a wide variety of patients who are different in age, weight, race, skin transparency and condition, vasomotor activity, and cardiovascular abnormalities. The purpose of the work is to choose the cheapest algorithm appropriate to be implemented in a new low-cost handheld professional medical device developed by Joint Stock Company “Production Association “Urals Optical & Mechanical Plant” named after Mr. E. S. Yalamov” (JSC PA UOMP) namely SENSOREX pulse oximeter (SENSOREX). The principal structure of SENSOREX is presented. The first results of saturation estimation made by SENSOREX are shown and discussed.
