On the Functional Reliability of the Physical Access Control System

This article presents the results of modeling the probability of no-failure operation for one passage point (PP) of a physical access control system (PACS) at a protected facility. In this work, analytical expressions are obtained to determine the probability of failure-free operation of the PP, the probabilities of illegal access (FRR - false rejection rate) and illegal denial of access (FAR -false acceptance rate). The probability of no-failure operation of the PP is defined as the product of the probabilities of no-failure operation of the elements of the PACS. As the initial parameters of the simulation, the tactical and technical characteristics of the elements of the PP PACS technical means and the service life of the PACS are used. In addition, the simulation takes into account the operating and maintenance conditions of the PACS, as well as the presence of destabilizing factors on the site that affect the functioning of the PACS elements. The proposed model does not take into account the possibility of sabotage or special impact on the software and hardware of PACS. The created model specific technical means PACS and operating conditions it is possible to perform predictive calculations of the probability of PACS and the probability of unauthorized access of the subject through the PP when failure of PACS on the protected object. Consequently, the generated model makes it possible, depending on the importance of the protected values at a particular object, to optimize the choice of PACS technical means to ensure a given level of probability of authorized and unauthorized passage. The proposed technical solution for the modeling of probability of PACS and the probability of unauthorized access of the subject through specific PP in case of refusal PACS could can be used as part of a model for predicting the reliability of the authorized passage. In addition, it is possible to calculate the probability of unauthorized access to protected values through the associated PP PACS system of the building as a whole.
