Faults Detection Simulator of Generator using Internet of Things Technology

This paper presents to apply the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm for fault detection in an electrical machine. This is one method to know the device damage before the maintenance time or components deterioration. A generator model was created to be represented of a machine demonstration to study for controlling and monitoring via IoT technology. The designed controller can control the rotor speed and display the vibration value of the generator during operation. In addition, it can detect the damage of the rotor slot from the sensor signal installed inside the generator. All signals were sent to the processing board used Raspberry pie through Arduino board. Then, the data was evaluated by Python program, and was shown on the screen. Moreover, it can be displayed on other monitors over the internet because the measured results were stored in the cloud system. The result found that the monitor can show the variable speed of the rotor by adjusting via program. Furthermore, it can display the faults detection of the vibration value when the rotor axis is misalignment as well as the damaged slots. Therefore, the results can always monitor and control on the screen or smart phone both onsite and out of site using IoT.
