Power System Transient Analysis via Circuit Simulator: A Case Study of SVC

An electronic circuit simulator-based approach is presented to improve the simulation speed for the power system transient analysis, where the modeling of SVC (Static Var Compensator) is investigated in a case study. The basic theory of circuit simulation including equation formulation and the numerical algorithm is introduced. Then, the circuit modeling of several power system components such as slack bus, constant power load, synchronous generator, and SVC are investigated respectively. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted on three IEEE test systems. Results demonstrate the applicability of the proposed simulation approach via electronic circuits.
