Power Transformer Protection using ANN and Wavelet Transforms

Three-phase Power transformers protection algorithm is proposed in this paper by using wavelet transform and ANN method. The current waves obtained are decomposed by using wavelet transforms. ANN technique is used as pattern classifier. Extensive case studies show that wavelet transformation provides preliminary feature extraction effectively for various transient cases. Wavelet transformation in combination with ANN attains great reliability and accuracy. This combination also can discriminate internal faults faster with relatively more accuracy. Simulation models of power transformer protection by ANN and wavelet transform are done in MATLAB - SIMULINK environment.
