Free-Space Optical Communication with Finite Acceptance Aperture Using Concentric Perfect Optical Vortex

The paper simulate a free-space optical communication using concentric perfect optical vortex (CPOV) beam for data transmission, where the CPOV beam is generated by loading a spatial light modulator with perfect optical vortex (POV) phases of different radii, and the CPOV beam is detected through the modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) consisting of the standardized MZI, a Dove Prism (DP) and a glass sheet. Meanwhile, the CPOV beam is used for binary and hexadecimal encoding to achieve OAM shift keying communication for data transmission, showing zero error rate. The work indicates that the CPOV beam could be used in optical communication, which can increase capacity at finite aperture, and laid the foundation for increasing communication capacity in the limited range.
