Wind Turbine Runaway Safety System : Design and Concept

Wind turbines play an important role in the renewable energy sector's stability and longevity. They have been installed in growing numbers all around the world. Several failure-preventing systems are incorporated in wind turbines to be activated in the event of failure. Nonetheless, many wind turbines globally have experienced partial or full breakage of blades due to runaway caused by overspeeding. This formed a threat to its surroundings and forms of life. This work investigates a new wind turbine safety system. It will be able to prevent the fly away of blade fragments over high speeds onto the neighboring environment in the event of runaway. The stationary system and the mobile system were the both approaches studied and examined for the wind turbine runaway safety system. Each system approach had strong and weak points and was evaluated accordingly.
