A Basic Command and Control Strategy in Botnet Defense System

This paper proposes a basic command and control (C&C) strategy for Botnet Defense System (BDS). BDS is a kind of cyber-security systems that uses white-hat botnets to exterminate malicious botnets. White-hat botnets are a so-called double-edged sword. White-hat bots defend an IoT system against malicious bots, but they waste the system's resources until exhausting their lifespan. We introduced the concept of observability and controllability in the design of BDS. Taking them into consideration, we planed the basic C&C strategy that orders the white-hat bots to destruct themselves. We modeled BDS and the strategy with agent-oriented Petri net PN². We confirmed the effect of the strategy through the simulation of the PN² model.
