Autonomous Platform for Automation and Irrigation Monitoring

Smart modern agriculture takes advantage of the currently available large variety of sensors to remotely monitor crop progress through Internet of Things (IoT) based systems. Given the agricultural culture specificity and its growth stage, a fully automated system is required to dynamically adjust the growth parameters according to the complexity and rapidness of environment changes. Present work proposes an implementation of a reduced cost, highly configurable, two modules crop monitoring platform and soil irrigation system, featuring data acquisition, e.g., the air's and the soil's temperature and humidity, the ambient light, the ultraviolet and the infrared radiation. The platform can also autonomously control the irrigation system and can wirelessly transmit the acquired data and via the Wi-Fi and the GSM protocols. Moreover, a battery management system including a solar cell provides autonomy for usage in remote areas.
