Design and Analysis of Star Shaped Antenna for Ka Band Applications

In this paper, a fractal based microstrip patch antenna has proposed for the dual band operations and at the same time it is mainly designed for Satellite communication and the applications in Ka band frequency with low profile, light in weight, easy to fabricate and high flexibility. The antenna consists of a fractal rectangular patch with microstrip line feed etched on a Rogers RT5880 substrate. This antenna is designed by using fractal technology because it has better input impedence matching, operates at multiband. Instead of using many antennas only one antenna can perform over huge frequency range with miniaturization. The fractal technology used here is Koch snowflake formed by displacing the middle one-third of each straight segment by some fraction called indentation width. By using Fractal technology miniaturization of antenna, better matching of input impedence, consistence performance over huge frequency and higher bandwidth is achieved. This antenna can be operated in Ka band which has a frequency range from 27 to 40GHz.The simulations of the proposed antenna is done by Ansoft HFSS version 13.0.
