Class Topper Optimization Algorithm based Optimum Passive Power Filter Design for Power System

The main purpose of this paper is to design a passive power filter to mitigate the odd harmonics caused by the use of non linear load. These odd harmonics cause various problems like heating, poor efficiency, failure of capacitors etc. Reducing these harmonics is the main concern and can be achieved using passive power filter. Necessary aspects like harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation are to be satisfied by the designed filter. This is a multiobjective problem considering total harmonic distortion, optimum cost and reactive power compensation. Few constraints are also considered during this procedure. Power system network is a complex non linear network so finding the parameters of the filter to implement in this system is quite difficult. Following conventional method leads to complex mathematical equations to find the parameters of filter. In this scenario optimization gives a gateway and eases the path to obtain the optimum filter parameters. A potent method is chosen among numerous optimization techniques, i.e Class Topper Optimization (CTO). This technique is used to find the respective parameters of the filter needed as per the situation.
