A Parametric Analysis and Simulation Study of Planar Inverted F Antenna for 5G Dongle Application

The parametric and simulation study of single band PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) for 5G dongle device has been presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has been designed using CST microwave studio suit. The antenna resonate at frequency 3.57 GHz which falls in 5G [n77 (3.3-4.2 GHZ), n78 (3.3-3.8 GHz)] bands with bandwidth of 756.8 MHz, VSWR = 1.01, peak gain = 4.67 dB, impedance = (50.62, 0.54) Ω. The antenna dimensions like patch width, patch height, shorting strip width, and feeding point position were optimized using systematic approach of parametric analysis. The antenna characteristics like return loss (S11), impedance (Z), VSWR, gain were also studied. The paper also explains the effect of antenna dimensions on resonance frequency, return loss, impedance and antenna matching.
