Research on Open Source Solutions of Data Collection for Industrial Internet of Things

Nowadays, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) plays a crucial role in the Industrial Revolution known as Industry 4.0. IIoT requires a full connection among machines, between information technology (IT) systems and operational technology (OT) systems. Various industrial protocols coexist in the field make data collection of IIoT to be a complex work. A Python-based open source solution of data collection for IIoT is proposed, data can be collected by industrial protocols, converted to OPC UA, MQTT, and stored into time-series databases. IIoT data collection can be implemented in a low-cost and flexible way, which is a good supplement to commercial software that can greatly promote the development of the IIoT.
