Adaptive predictive controller design for nonlinear grid-connected PMSG based wind energy conversion system using dynamic matrices

The present paper deals with the design of an adaptive predictive controller for a nonlinear wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The system consists of a grid-connected aero-generator with AC/DC/AC converter. Because the wind speed always fluctuates in the natural environment, the generator output is not acceptable due to the different domains and frequency. To improve the response of the system and development of existing predictive methods to nonlinear systems, integrating adaptive and predictive Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) is introduced, which has not been applied to nonlinear WECS yet. Also, the system was investigated by the DMC algorithm to compare with the adaptive one. The method used in this paper is that the control input in each optimization interval is estimated by the system. The simulation results show that the adaptive DMC (ADMC), improves the convergence, and reduces disturbances in a steady-state process.
