Collaborative Replication for Mobile Short Video Sharing Services

With the development of mobile network based on intelligent mobile terminal technology and the decrease in traffic cost, the development of short video platforms is fierce and mobile traffic is also experiencing rapid growth. Unlike traditional video on Video on Demand(VoD) platform, the short video has a shorter popularity cycle, and its popularity changes quickly. The traditional caching algorithm is not completely suitable for short video platforms. Taking Douyin as an example, we first analyze the popularity of short videos changes with distance and time. Then, we propose an edge caching algorithm combined with collaborative replication for the short video platform which targets of reducing traffic transmission and improving cache hit rate. We implement a program to simulate the algorithm and compared it with the traditional cache replacement algorithm. The simulation results show that our algorithm performs better than the comparison algorithm with cache hit rate and traffic reduction rate.
