Assessments of Autonomic Nervous System Biomarker for Emotion Recognition using Electrodermal Activity Signal

Traffic accidents are frequently caused by speeding, fatigue, and risky driving. Human emotions derived from biological signals produced by the autonomic nervous system (ANS) are closely associated with reckless driving. Motivated by the developments of biomarker technology used in different electronic identification systems, an experimental protocol, and a computational model was developed to analyze emotion patterns using the biological signal. The skin conductance (SC) property of electrodermal activity (EDA) was used in this emotional studies. Experimental protocols and setup have been developed to minimize the difficulty of signal acquisitions. The audio-visual process stimulus obtained the highest classification accuracy 83.3% compared with other stimuli proved that audio-visual induced stronger positive and negative effects in the emotion elicitation. They have a high potential to be used as biomarkers in intelligent vehicles, which help deter accidents and save lives by their simplicity.
