Design and Modelling of an Automated Power Window Five-Bar Mechanism

Every year, newly designed passenger vehicles with better features are entering the market. One of these is the power window which provides fast movement of side windowpane for better comfort. Non- opening of the windowpane in an emergency is responsible for the death of occupants in some cases. Death of small child, disabled or older person has been reported due to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning when they were allowed to stay inside a locked car while others have gone outside. In this paper, we discuss the design of an automatic opening mechanism for a car windowpane during this type of crisis.In this system, temperature and Carbon-monoxide sensors are placed inside the car, which helps to monitor the temperature and CO levels continuously. In case of high internal cabin temperature or raised carbon monoxide due to fire or excessive heat or vehicle is placed under the sun for long, the sensor sends a signal to the motor controlling window pane to slide down for about few centimetres. It also sends a warning message to the mobile of the registered vehicle owner.
