Security Threats in Cloud Computing Based Smart Grids and its Countermeasures

Information exchange is considered very critical in the smart grids for system control and management. Communications with supported network virtualization through widespread connection provides real-time services for multiple users. However, the challenge of security threats is the problem that occurred in this technology, which is the vulnerability of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in the smart grid over network virtualization. Hackers use it as an entrance point to the smart grid network. This paper proposes and implements symmetric key cryptography to handle this issue. Agile model-driven development is the methodology used for the proposed solution. After the implementation of this solution, a smart grid network with higher security of the AMI system can provide more secure services for multiple users. It can prevent unauthorized access to a smart grid network using the AMI system. Lastly, the continuous improvement of the AMI system with advanced symmetric key cryptography in smart grid technology over network virtualization is suggested for the future direction.
