A Unique 48-Pulse Passive Rectifier for Harmonics Compensation

In this research article, a 48-pulse AC-DC converter is proposed to mitigate the total harmonics distortion of the AC input current. As multi-pulse converters having less number of output pulse are failed to meet the demand of IEEE 519-1992 standard so, this paper uses a parallelly connected 24pulse passive converter. We added a customized interphase reactor-based pulse doubling circuit with it to improvise the previous converter into a 48-pulse rectifier. The THD content of the input AC current of the proposed scheme is found 3.556% at rated load and 3.583% at light load condition respectively. Both of the values are within the limit of the IEEE standard value. Moreover, the proposed design shows a very low percentage of THD fluctuation, which makes this scheme a THD stabilized device to perform impressively under any fluctuation of the load. This paper also describes the performance analysis of the proposed scheme having an inductive load, the operation of the proposed pulse doubling circuit with proper figures and equations.
