Ku-band Active Phased Antenna Array Calibration in Anechoic Chamber with Phaseless Calibration Method

This paper presents the basic operations of a calibration experiment planning for a transmitting active phased Antenna Array (AA) in an RF anechoic chamber. Features of the low-element array calibration are exposed. The description of the AA structure and its technical characteristics are presented. Mathematical relationships which describe the sphericity of the phase front, taking into account the location of the elements along with the AA aperture, as well as precise positioning in space, are presented. Calibration is supposed to be performed using the most promising and simplest phaseless calibration methods, namely, using several versions of the Rotating-Element Electric Field Vector (REV) method. The calibration consists of three parts: preliminary calibration of each channel without an emitter, calibration of the AA in the anechoic chamber and the compensation of the limitations caused by the anechoic chamber dimensions.
