Research into Electrical Characteristics of Poly-Paraxylylene Coating in Ka and Ku Frequency Ranges

Today the task of protecting printed circuit boards and their components from external factors is quite acute. One of the possible methods of protection is the covering printed circuit boards and their components with poly-paraxylylene. Unfortunately, the electrical characteristics of this coating are known for certain only for low frequencies (1 MHz and below). This work presents electromagnetic modeling of microstrip microwave structures covered with poly-paraxylylene, verification of the simulation results by means of measuring real samples before and after applying a protective coating. As a result of the study, the values of the relative permittivity and the dielectric loss tangent of the poly-paraxylylene coating were obtained, which can be used for the design and simulation of devices in the Ka and Ku frequency ranges.
