Optimization of Wind Farm Parallel Operation with the Power Grid

The possibilities of operating the wind farm (WF) converters as sources of the reactive power with the function of reducing the active power losses in the network are considered using the example of a wind farm with a capacity of 30 MW equipped with direct drive Lagerway L100-2.5 MW wind turbines. Based on the calculations of steady-state operation conditions in the equivalent power transmission system the dependencies reflecting the connection between distance between WF and the input buses of the power system substation have been obtained, normalized economic current density when choosing power lines wires and restrictions on the output of reactive power of wind farm.
