Design of all-optical D flipflop using SOA-MZI Architecture

The essential components for all-optical networks are all-optical memory elements with high utility and practicality. This paper presents an all optical D flip flop which uses all-optical gates as its basic building block and semiconductor optical amplifier Mach-Zehnder interferometer architecture is used for implementing these logic gates, which makes it more energy efficient and can be facilely combined with both the type of elements of the circuit that is with active as well as with passive components. Optical flip-flops acts as a basic element for the implementation of various other all optical components like optical counters and optical shift registers and the presence of more all-optical components in the circuit amplifies the computing performance of the whole circuit. The design has been simulated in optisystem and the numerical simulation results confirm the logic of the model at 10Gbps and 25Gbps.
