Finite Element Analysis for Commercial Vehicle Drum Brakes

With the popularization of automobiles and the improvement of people's requirements for travel, automobile safety has become more important. As a key component of the automobile safety system, the structure design scheme and performance of the brake directly determine the safety performance of the vehicle. Based on the finite element method, this paper takes a certain type of drum brake as the research object, uses the three-dimensional modeling software CATIA to establish the three-dimensional solid model of the part, and then uses ANSYS to establish the corresponding finite element model, and perform statics and modal analysis on the model. In terms of statics, stress concentration is likely to occur on the outer side of the brake drum near the restraint end; in terms of modal analysis, it is found that the low-order natural frequencies of the brake drum are mainly distributed between 500Hz-1000Hz, and the road excitation frequency also falls within this stage. Therefore, it is easy to cause braking noise and vibration, so the natural frequency in this range should be avoided in the subsequent structural design optimization process. The research in this paper provides new ideas for the design and optimization of brakes.
