Comparison of approximate DCT and approximate DTT for image compression

Discrete cosine transform (DCT) has been widely used for image compression and discrete Tchebichef transform (DTT) is attractive increasingly in this field. Exact DCT and exact DTT are complicated to implement. However, both of them can be simplified. Many approximate ways of simplifying them have been proposed. The paper compared the performance of approximate DCT and approximate DTT to draw some significant conclusions promoting their appropriate application. The performance comparison is made by carrying out experiments on MATLAB platform.
