Real time Estuary Observatory System for monitoring Bhavanapadu estuary physical properties at East Coast of India

Real-time Estuary Observatory System (REOS) is designed for a continuous monitor of the estuary physical properties by utilizing an array of rapid sampling sensor technology interfaced with the microcontroller to investigate the variability of physical parameters influenced by the tidal current in the estuary. REOS consists of two platforms such as Moored Buoy Observatory (MBO) which collects water temperature at different depths, water pressure, air temperature, and sub-surface tidal current velocity & direction. The second platform is Onboard field measurements collect the salinity & temperature profiles at selected stations in the study area. Data acquired by these two platforms uploads to the cloud by using the Internet of Things (IoT) with the help of wireless internet provided in the platforms. Collected data is further used to study the variability of the physical parameters in the estuary and further used to validate the coastal models. In this study the system deployed at the Bhavanapadu estuary (Lat 18.56349 Lon 84.35485) which located on the East coast of India adjacent to the Bay of Bengal Sea. Acquired data is compared with the tidal time and it shows that all the parameters are highly influenced by the tidal current in the estuary.
