Scientometric Exploration of ICT-based Smart Disaster Management Research: A Practitioner's View

The two driving forces viz. the losses due to disasters and the innovative penetration of information and communication technologies (ICT), have worked as the vital motivations for strengthening the sustainability of communities against disasters. This impetus has tended the increasing interest of the research communities from different corners of the world, towards the exploration of ICT-based smart solutions for disaster management, and resulted into the plethora of research production in a short period (2009-18). Such scenarios retard the capabilities of interested research communities in exploring the avenues for better and robust solutions. The utilization of structured review of knowledge in such domains helps in identifying the various research frontiers and facilitating future research ventures and innovations. In this direction, the quantitative reviews through scientometric explorations unwind well-analyzed insights and identify various research frontiers in a domain. This article is an effort to put forward this perspective of scientometric exploration, in the domain of smart disaster management research. The article presents the art of scientometric exploration and discusses a set of issues faced during the exploration from the perspective of a scientometric practitioner.
