The preeminence of Fog Computing and IoT enabled Cloud Systems in Health care

The advancement of technology in recent years significantly benefits the health care sector. The present computers can process large volumes of health care data related to patients. Wireless sensor networks and wearable sensor devices play a significant role in monitoring the patient’s health conditions. They will safeguard them under various risky conditions. Various sensor devices are located geographically at different places. A large volume of amount of data is collected every day. Processing, storing in a secure environment, performing some computations on sensitive data, and providing timely responses are the foremost challenges in the health care systems. Scientists suggested that the challenges of the traditional health care approach can be best addressed by fog computing and IoT enabled cloud computing. People also can monitor their health conditions like regular pulse rate monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen levels, ECGs, and sugar levels through wearable IoT devices. The prediction of the health condition of a person using deep and machine learning techniques using the data collected through wearable IoT is a promising task nowadays. The response time plays a major role as a fraction of seconds delay leads to critical conditions in the health care sector. So the tasks in health care are divided into real-time, less time, and more time taking tasks. Most of the realtime tasks are handling by fog computing layers without transferring the data to the cloud layer which takes more time to give a response to a situation. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of various applications of fog computing in healthcare systems with its challenges and their solutions. It also presents the use of fog computing and data analytics in providing better care, treatment improvement, and enriching patient’s satisfaction levels.
