Teaching Risk Analytics Using R

We discuss our experience with using R, which is a free software that is particularly suitable for computer simulation, in a risk analytics course offered to students having different experience levels and technical sophistication. We highlight relevant packages in R that we found useful for the purposes of input modeling and stochastic optimization along with several examples. We also introduce a new package that allows the simulation of decision trees. Student feedback regarding the use of R in comparison to a spreadsheet-based platform has been very positive.
