A Switched Inductor Based Five Level NPC Quasi-Z Source Inverter

Power electronic converters are having a key role in renewable energy technology. The popular among them are multilevel inverters. This paper deals with two different topologies, viz, quasi Z source and neutral point clamped inverter, combined in such a manner to obtain improved boost gain factor, reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD) as well as voltage stress on power switches. The inverter circuit is made by integrating Quasi-Z-Source (QZS) with diode clamped arm and switched inductor. The level shifting pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is implemented in this topology to improve the high boost gain. The neutral point clamped inverter (NPCI) is used to obtain high quality staircase waveform and thereby reduce harmonic distortion. The potential of the proposed topology, switched inductor five level QZS-based NPCI is analyzed in MATLAB/Simulink platform in terms of boost gain factor and THD.
