Improved and Efficient Dual-Hop Relaying System

In this paper, we propose an improved and spectrally efficient dual-hop relaying system, where a source communicates with the destination via intermediate decode-and-forward (DF) relays while there is no direct link between the source and the destination due to obstacles, shadowing or some other constraints. The proposed dual-hop relaying system has 33% higher spectral efficiency compared to the conventional dual-hop relaying system and has higher error performance compared to all relevant dual-hop relaying systems available in the literature without extra transmit power and bandwidth. In this paper, we evaluate the error performance of the proposed system and derive the closed-form expression of the error probability for the proposed system. In addition, we analyze the error performance with the variation of the source to relays distances. Moreover, we examine the error performance of the proposed system with the change in transmit powers of the nodes. The numerical results confirm the superiority of the proposed system over relevant dual-hop relaying systems.
