Developing Faster Restoration Technique for Industrial Microgrid under Post-Isolation Scenarios

Although microgrid emerges as a potential alternative to disastrous incidents, the microgrid itself may struggle to continue service to consumers with widespread blackout. Thus, distributed generators (DGs) in microgrids can be used as black start units as a contingency plan. A fast and efficient black start unit with proper restoration procedure can increase the reliability of the system. This paper explores the efficacy of restoration issues for two most popular restoration strategies (i.e., interconnection and separation-bridging) with DG so that a faster recovery technique can be adopted at the planning level. Findings demonstrate that the separation-bridging restoration strategy in the test microgrid can give faster and diligent restoration compared to the other technique.
