A Rooftop Solar PV Assisted On-Board Enhanced Power Quality Charging System for E-Rickshaw

An integration of the possible renewable energy sources with the enhanced power quality onboard charging system; not only increases the reliability of the overall charging process but it also reduces the burden on the grid and optimizes the energy cost per mile. Therefore, a single phase single stage charging system assisted with the rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) of E-Rickshaw, is presented in this work. An isolated bridgeless modified zeta (IBMZ) converter is employed at the supply side as a power factor correction circuit (PFCC); whereas a nonisolated Cuk converter is utilized for extracting maximum power from the vehicle rooftop solar PV panels. The design of the PFCC is carried out in discontinuous inductor current mode (DICM) to ensure the voltage follower mode operation for wide supply and load side dynamics. Whereas, the continuous input and output current feature of the Cuk converter is excellently utilized to extract the ripple free maximum power from the solar PV panel. Furthermore, some crucial benefits from cost, safety, reliability, and efficiency point of view is added in the presented charger configuration. Like, the reduced size of magnetic components, few sensing devices in control implementation, few component count, supply and battery isolation, and continuous charging of vehicle are some features even during the gird outage. Finally, the performance of the charger along with its design and control for a wide variation of supply voltage, loading conditions, and solar irradiation, is verified by using MATLAB Simulink environment. The essential results are provided for the verification of the performance.
