Attenuation of Vibrations in a Mechanical Oscillator by Implementing Two Types of Vibration Absorbers: Experimental Results

This work deals with the vibration absorption problem on a flexible mechanical oscillator, discretized in one degree of freedom, by using linear and nonlinear absorbers. The passive control of the undesirable oscillations in the primary system is performed with a pendulum absorber (Tuned Mass Damper configuration) as well as by an autoparametric cantilever beam type. This attenuation approach is experimentally validated using a building-like structure which is mounted on a Stewart platform and harmonically excited on its base under resonant conditions and coupled to the two different vibration absorbers mentioned above. The action of the vibration absorption is evaluated from dynamic and frequency domain where the advantages and disadvantages of each passive vibration absorber are mentioned.
