A Single-Phase Step-Up 5-level Switched-Capacitor Inverter with Reduced Device Count

A novel single-phase switched-capacitor (SC) inverter is proposed in this article. The proposed single stage topology require eight switches, one capacitor and single DC source to generate five-level of load voltage. The significant features of the proposed topology are voltage boosting ability, inherent self- balancing capability of the capacitor voltage and bipolar voltage level. Bipolar voltage can be generated without using any H - bridge at the back end of the inverter. Comparative analysis has been performed to prove the merits of the proposed topology with the state-of-the-art topologies. The proposed structural design is validated by the simulation (MATLAB/Simulink) results.
