A Method of Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Modelling in BCC, FCC and HCP Metals

In order to investigate the evolution of anisotropy in metals with different crystal structure at micro and macro scales, a method of crystal plasticity finite element modelling in typical body-centered cubic, face-centered cubic and hexagonal close-packed metals is introduced in this paper. For preparing metallurgical data required for the modelling, a polycrystalline geometry model is developed based on the Voronoi diagram, firstly. The grain morphology, such as grain size, shape and crystal orientation, can be controlled using the developed model. Then, a data transfer code is designed to transfer the data from grain morphology and material properties to a finite element mesh. Moreover, for the purpose of implementing the crystal plasticity formulations, an ABAQUS user subroutine (UMAT) is established. With the aid of the method, the deformation response of polycrystalline pure copper is simulated. The predicted values of flow stress are in good agreement with experimental ones.
