Numerical analysis of the oscillation in the discharge channel and material removal process in EDM

Due to the complexity of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) process, there is no systematic model to explain the effect of oscillation process in the discharge channel on the crater shape during EDM. This paper studied the change of the discharge channel and material removal process during EDM. The oscillation model of the discharge channel was established and the fluid-solid coupling model was used to simulate the material removal process. The oscillation of the discharge channel and the effects of discharge channels on the crater shape at different times were analysed. Finally, the simulation model is verified by single-pulse discharge material discharge experiments.
