Piecewise Linear Ramp based Preventive Dispatch for Intra-Interval Power Insufficiency

Wind power is of volatility and uncertainty, and its nonlinear characteristic will lead to the intra-interval power insufficiency (IIPI) problem which means that thermal power plus wind power is insufficient to supply total loads. Power system will encounter frequency drop and load shedding when the intra-interval power insufficiency problem occurs, and the system will even break down when the constant IIPI problem cannot be solved. Hence, a piecewise linear ramp based preventive dispatch (PLRPD) method is proposed to solve the IIPI problem in the worst case in this paper. Case study on the modified IEEE 118-bus system proves that the proposed method in the paper is effective to reduce the insufficient power to the secured threshold.
